I have tried to uninstall and reinstall same thing, works in 10 not in 11... Any Suggestions... Thanks... Laptop core duo 1.4 ... 1.5 gig ram XP SP2 Sony HC3

I am having the same problem with the Hauppauge PVR-350 card. I read somewhere that this card was now being recognised properly? Could this be the same problem?

Does yours work in 10+ fine and only in 11 have the problem? Also does it work in standard definition and only happen in HD?

Actually, we never tried it in 10 because we read that others could not get it to work. I will now try to see if that is true in our case. Thanks for asking!

same problem - two threads

Postby chousel9 on Tue May 15, 2007 2:17 am

I'm curious why this problem is split between two threads. There are more people having this problem including me, and it is not a Vista problem. I upgraded to VS11 + from version 8. I am getting the same error message about being "unable to switch to capture mode". I use a plextor convertx to capture video from my Sharp MiniDV. I checked to make sure I have the latest driver for it and I am running winxp, sp2. Capturing worked fine under version 8. I reported this to tech support 4 days ago - no response yet.
I chose to download as I didn't want to wait for shipping - now instead I wait for a technical solution to a software problem. I hope somebody figures out the solution to this soon!

SOLUTION!!!

Postby chousel9 on Tue May 15, 2007 2:44 am

OK - I solved the problem Even though I did have Directx 9.0c I decided to download the most recent update. That solved the problem - the dowload page at microsoft is here

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en

And the update you want is the April 2007 end-user runtime web installer. (In the "popular download" category it is called the April 2007 directx update).

Tech spport couldn't figure this out?

Postscript

You're welcome! I'm glad it worked for you too.

There is a post script to this story - tech support finally got back to me about this about 5 days after I submitted the problem - and their answer was that my plextor equipment was not "compatible" with Video Studio AND they further said my only choice was to capture with the software that came bundled with my convertx and then import it to video studio. Um, HELLO??? The software that came bundled with convertx WAS VIDEO STUDIO!!!!!!!!!! Wow, how many ways could this answer be wrong?

The bad news for me is that version 11 will now switch to capture mode but won't capture through my convertx - so I either have to use my firewire (takes longer as it is software compression as opposed to hardware) OR I use Video Studio 8 to capture (works JUST FINE there!) and then edit with version 11.

I'm not exactly a happy camper right now.........

I did - and on his thread I'd like to add that while ultimately yes, my plextor convertx will not work with version 11, it was still not the correct answer to the particular problem.

Many people were getting this error message with different hardware - the error message problem was solved.
